Overheard today at work from an Islandsflug Engineer at PIK (Globespan
Maintenance Engineer):

"Air Atlanta are planning to create a maintenance base at PIK to
complement Polar and Ryanair in 2004".

Does anyone have any more news on this??

This is horse's mouth stuff as I personally handed over an AOG
aircraft part to said engineer for a downed aircraft in Liege.

By the way:

Said Icelandic engineer remarked on his quality of life working at
Prestwick and was not looking forward to his new tenure at
claustrophobic Paisley/Glasgow. "What a shame" was his words!!

Obviously he is a lover of wide open spaces, peace and tranquility,
all available at PIK in abundance.Or maybe hes a bit nervy about
working at a real airport! What was the full quote from him anyway?
Something like " What a shame that the North American a/l, which is
tieing in with FlyGlobespan at GLA, think PIK is an outdated,
pre-historic airport" ?

Well Prestwick itself is a nice place and the coastline is really nice in
the summer.

Yes lots of space. I remember going too some of the airshows at PIK, it
certainly was a good day out.

I have seen this sort of thing before and maybe he is going too work
harder/be watched over more.

Well PIK is needing money spent on it and I believe that they are planning
too sort it out and at the same time sell off their railway station as Mr
Wilson does not want to pay for the £50,000 pounds of improvements which are
needed for the pax.
