"A major shake up of Scotland's air ambulance service has been approved
despite concerns from Northern Isles residents.

Shetland and Orkney islanders fear lives will be put at risk when two fixed
wing and two helicopters based on the mainland take over air ambulance cover
for the whole of Scotland.

A fixed wing air ambulance on Shetland (left), responding to a call out.
This is the current practice in the Northern Isles but from April next year
the locally-based service will be scrapped and replaced by fewer but faster
mainland based aircraft."

I can't see the GAMA a/c doing this?

A major concern I believe. Once again finance comes before patient safety
:-(

Local speculation is that Bute will be served entirely by helicopter
following the change, which is not something that is completely welcomed
on the Island. {Declaration of interest : I have a home on Bute}.
There's a big local controversy (which is matched with one in
Inverclyde) about where medical services are being provided. Pregnant
women from Bute look likely to be sent to Paisley's hospital for
maternity services, rather than using services in Inverclyde, which will
extend the travel by another 35 miles.

I think its crazy that the whole of south Argyll will not have local
services. I am sure it will only serve to depopulate the area even more.
The island communities even more so. Very sad.

What's that got to do with it.? Folk expect to read EDI's district news
here not
the Abbotsinch.

Thank God STV have the sense to realise that both sides of the country
are separate
areas...roll on STV's promised East Coast news bulletins...why are they
introducing this.?

BECAUSE BOTH EDINBURGH AND GLASGOW HAVE NOTHING IN COMMON!

What perils are those Joe? The perils of ending up in your non existent
killfile? I would have thought air ambulance services were, by the
nature of them, wide ranging. They do NOT always go to and from a
specific airport, and it is possible that some of them would arrive at
EDI. You need to get a clue about life and posting, but I have said that
before.

Proper follow up restored.

Sad..
