In a Belfort Instrument Company press release
(http://www.prweb.com/releases/2004/7/prweb139374.htm) dated July 8,
2004 (two full years ago), Belfort announced FAA Approval of their
DigiWx AWOS product even though the only thing FAA Approved at that time
was the dual digital barometer.

WHOooooPEEeeee!

Here we are two years later and I've been unable to find a single FAA
commissioned DigiWx AWOS anywhere in the US. Sure, you might find some
DigiWx units around but nobody I've talked to (airport managers, FBO
folks, pilots) has anything good to say about the DigiWx product.

How can an old weather company have an FAA Approved product in the field
yet not a single FAA commissioned DigiWx AWOS can be unearthed?

FAA Approval just means the FAA gave it's blessing for Belfort to sell
an AWOS. FAA commissioning is a separate process that takes place after
a unit has been installed on the field at an airport. At that time, FAA
personnel visit the airport weather station to insure the installed
product complies with FAA standards and regulations. If it doesn't, then
the airport weather station is NOT commissioned which means it cannot be
relied upon to broadcast certified and official weather data. The
weather data is "advisory" at best!

Inspection of the Belfort Instruments DigiWx AWOS homepage also reveals
some very troubling information. Printed on their website at
http://www.digiwx.com/locations.html is this DISCLAIMER:

"Weather Displayed on the Internet is 'Advisory' Only"

DO NOT PASS GO AND DO NOT COLLECT $200 dollars!

Well that should throw up a lot of RED flags.

Why would any civil/military airport buy a DigiWx AWOS is there are NO
FAA commisioned units in the field after two full years? How long does
it take to commission a DigiWx AWOS unit?

And Belfort won't tell you that the FAA did not APPROVE DigiWx AWOS:

1) wind direction
2) wind speed
3) temperature
4) dewpoint
5) relative humidity
6) density altitude
7) condensation altitude (ceiling)

Why would anyone want this inferior AWOS product offering on their
airport? Belfort Instrument Company just takes AWOS to a new LOW. AWOS
as it applies to a DigiWx AWOS should mean "Almost Weather Observation
System."

Still want one? If you do, then you have rocks in your head!
