|

Folks
This is no doubt a stupid question, but I am mightily confused....
Anyone tell me the location of the Aerodrome Reference Point for Longreach QLD?
A mate had a look at his ERSA & DAPS maps, and they seem to show it out in the
field to the East of the main runway. It doesnt actually look to be somewhere
you could access; either by taxiing an aircraft to it, or walking to it.
I wanted to calibrate the barometric altimeter on a handheld GPS, and it seems I
cant get to the ARP to set the GPS to a known elevation... It turns out that
known elevations are a bit vague.
Talking to the local Met Office guy, he tells me the ARP was always set for the
height of the barometer on the wall of what was the Flight Service office.
Whilst this is certainly easier to get to, I dont think he's right. Also, the
height difference between the point shown on the map and the one the Met Office
guy tells me has to be in excess of 10-15 feet.
Is there a standard location for the ARP at aerodromes, and should they be
accessible??
I appreciate the altimeter in the GPS will vary in height by 3-5 metres, but I'd
like to get it calibrated reasonably well to start with.
Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.
