The outcome of some discussions in the office is that instead of going
to Helsinki over the next few months it seems my regular destination
could be Oulu in Finland. I will probably need to make this trip monthly
and I wonder if any of you have any more original ideas for routes than
GLA - CPH - ARL - OUL or GLA - LHR - HEL - OUL? I cannot seem to find
connections other than these (probably because Oulu is served only by
Finnair, so far as I can see).

Your suggestions for sending me to the frozen north would be very
welcome ;-)

I note over on Google 'Mr Manchester' Wink has routed you via MAN & HEL, I
also had a go on Expedia but it was over £600 on the same routing.

Thanks David, I had come across this routing later when I looked again
on Travelocity. None of them are cheap though. Seems I can book it
cheaper as BA routing (all the flights have BA numbers).

Going to be heavy expenses this next three months I think.

Best routing i found was from EDI to ARN with SAS, and onward with
www.blue1.com

Thanks Bill, I had (as usual) not looked via EDI, and this option has
only a single change! I could also use the Finnair flight on that
connection as well. Price is not the prime consideration on these I
think as they are all going to be expensive.

Just think of the BA Airmiles (your lucky sod) and the Tier points you will
get. I bet you must be a BA Gold by now?

Oddly enough I never manage to get to the 1500 tier points for Gold.
This is because our in house agent is obliged to book me on the cheapest
deals with the cheapest airlines (or tell me to do it myself). My card
renewed in November and I lost the 910 tier points I had at that time. I
have made 300 since mind you, so maybe this year will be the year.

I guess the other thing is trying to maintain my status with BMI as well
which means I tend to fly with them sometimes rather than BA.

I have however already made enough points on Priorityclub to retain
Platinum until the end of 2006 (one stay with a company dinner at the
Intercontinental and two in Crowne Plazas)

John

I think BY might have eaten my reply to this so I'll post again.
Apologies if it does duplicate....

Have a look at the possibility of connecting through ARN (from EDI).
www.blue1.com have 3 flights a day to Oulu from there.

Gets you down to one stop.

HTH

Well I am now on 220, not sure what I will manage before 8th Oct. That's 19
single flights needed with no cheap deals. I do better with ProrityClub. I
need another 50k to keep PC Platinum for 2006 but I only stay in Holiday
Inn, Holiday Inn Express or Express by Holiday Inn (most of the time, did
manage Crowne Plaza in Liverpool and Manchester airport last year).

I already have another 5 nights booked for this month so with the double
points promotion starting on Monday (hope you all registered!!!) and the
1000k online booking bonus (remember if your staying more than 1 night to
book each night separately to get an additional 1000k for each night), that
little lot should take me upto an average of 5000 points per night.

Anyway, I think I will resend my posting with regards collecting points/air
miles. I am sure that a lot of people don't bother but are certainly missing
out on getting something back. I only need another 85000 points and that's
all my hotels paid for my summer holiday, 18 days worth. Hope I get that
soon then I can start working on points for 2006 holiday.............

regards
John

Perhaps if I explain it as a private dinner for 30 people which ended up
on my room ..... and the drinks ..... it might be a better explanation.
And then there was the room hire for the conference which I didn't think
I would get credit for.

Now if only it had been double points time ..............

To be honest its the quickest I have ever renewed it!

You will make it without any trouble to keep the platinum. It seems to
have been getting easier year on year IMHO as the points required are
way below the "nights" - is it 60 ? I don't think I did 60 with them
last year! Looks like we could meet at the CP Liverpool or the CP
Manchester Airport sometime.

One good change to our expense policy this year is that I have to pay
and then reclaim hotel stays of less than three nights. As nearly all of
mine are, I can now benefit from the promotions again. Good news when I
thought expenses policy was going to kill all the benefits for me. [I
have registered for the promotion, but thanks for the reminder!]

Not a bad idea to repost, perhaps it should become an aaug regular. I
must say it is very easy to get quite substantial rewards in the
Priorityclub promotions. I hope they do not change it soon, although the
number of hotels within the brands seems to be reducing year on year. I
used to get 43 hotels in London, down to 38 this year.

To be honest its the quickest I have ever renewed it!

Well last week at the HIx in Wandsworth I booked 7 rooms for people visiting
at the full rate. They were all booked under my name and we did put a few
beers on my own room as well. I did joke that I would like the points for
all the rooms..........maybe I might just be lucky and get them.

As for room hire, I was told that if we rented a room and as long as it was
billed to my company credit card I would get the points for the spend. There
was a thread in another forum saying that someone got an advance on their
room and paid for it all when they left. They were then given the points for
the £200 advance.

Well next trip this week is to Liverpool for a couple of days but its a trip
down by car as I have equipment to take (some really nice XP EVO cube PCs,
must get one for myself one of these days). Only consolation is that I am
staying at a HI so a few more thousand points.

regards John

PS anyone down in London on 25/26 Jan? I have some work on an a meeting to
attend on the 26th. Flying down 25th and back 27th.
