|
|
Does anyone have advice on how to make those perfect "greased"
landings? I have been trying to think on how to make my landings extra
nice, and extra soft.
In some ways I think a lower roundout would help, which would result
in a the plane howevering at just over 1 ft of the runway, which would
make for a lower drop in the flare.
I also was thinking of given a little spurt of speed to ease it in
during the flare.
I noticed that sometimes my instructor lands with just a little
juice, rather than dead idle.
There must be some techniques that guys have developed to help make
nice landings. Once I felt I was on the ground and the instructor
yanked the yoke back to exagerate the flare for me and he pulled me
right off the runway again...... I swear I was down. :-)

Easy suggestion, just put one wheel on the ground at a time.
You will be surprised at how much doing them one at a time will soften
a landing.
It does work best with Tri-Gear airplanes
Now it will just take some practice to get the skill to do so
consistanly. a little crosswind will help.

Another simple suggestion really work on using the Rudder to get the
airplane lined up with the runway.
Much of the smoothness of a landing is lost when the airplane has to
straighten it self out on touch down.

Yes, you are right.....having that little bit of power on the flare does
result in an soft touchdown. I wouldn't reccommend this technique for
short field ops as that "little" bit of power can add a fair amount on
you landing roll if you leave it on too long.
