700,000 pax chose Airport Weeze
Ryanair Press Release 09/02/05
Ryanair takes legal action against attempt to gag competition
Ryanair, Europe?s No.1 low fares airline, today (9th February 2005)
protested against the City of Düsseldorf for blocking Ryanair advertising
in the city.
Speaking this morning in Dusseldorf, Ryanair?s Chief Executive Michael
O?Leary, said:
?The Lord Mayor?s Office?s recent attempts to block Ryanair?s advertising
of its low fares to and from Airport Weeze, the low fares alternative to
Düsseldorf International, came to light when our media buyers in Dusseldorf
were informed that the city office had threatened their business unless
these ads were removed.
Despite an attempted u-turn at the weekend by the Lord Mayor?s Office,
claiming that their statements had been made ?in error?, Ryanair received a
further request on Monday, 7th February requesting that we withdraw our
advertisement orders for fear of recrimination from the city offices.
The Lord Mayor?s Office clearly has a conflict of interest as the Lord
Mayor, Joachim Erwin is also a member of the Board of Düsseldorf
International Airport and is misusing his office to block competition from
Ryanair at Airport Weeze. In so doing he is:
1) Denying freedom of speech
2) Denying the residents of Düsseldorf the low fare alternative
3) Stifling tourism and job creation by blocking Airport Weeze and Ryanair
competition.
In 2005 Ryanair will:
1) Carry 700,000 passengers through Airport Weeze
2) Sustain 700 new jobs in the Dusseldorf area
3) Bring savings of ?7M over fares of high fare airlines
The Mayor?s office should be supporting free speech, consumer choice,
competition and job creation; not blocking them.?

Further to the exchange on code sets this morning, this posting seems to
have the ? problem, but I cannot see what it is, my system thinks that
you actually encoded the ? sign. I'd suggest there is an encoding
problem on your system somewhere. The ? signs are in the raw feed, so
there is some header problem I think.

I think it is an IE issue John - I have IE set to automatic encoding for
character sets. I think there is something getting lost between IE and
pasting into Gravity.
